Into the Light
Hold me baby, hold me tight!
Kiss me, kiss me hard and love me through the night.
Love me to the light.
We were seventeen on our first date,
Sledding on the hills next to the lake.
And that is what you said
soon after we rolled off that sled
The gown and veil had both been simple fabric
then you stepped into them and they became magic
the tear in my eye almost made me falter, married at twenty two
When I said I do at the alter, to you
Hold me baby, hold me tight!
Kiss me, kiss me hard and love me through the night.
Love me to the light.
You gave us children to love
we had disagreements but it was never push or shove
we built a home and it was dandy
because we had become a loving family
I remember the morning I found your pillow moist with tears
We talked and soon I found us filled with fears
I held you so tight but the angel coaxed you from our bed
and in the night, this is what you said
Hold me baby, hold me tight!
Kiss me, kiss me hard and love me through the night.
Love me to the light.
The children have moved, they are grown
It seems they never have time to find a phone
This morning your scented pillow was moist with tears
It doesnt make sense, you're nowhere here or near
I've watered your roses darling
Pulled out that bag of seed you bought and served the starlings
I tossed your pillow on the seat beside me
We'll take that drive in the country, around that bend next to the sea
Hold me baby, hold me tight!
Kiss me, kiss me hard and love me through the night.
Love me to the light.
I remember how you used to laugh when I drove fast
The white lines are passing in a flash reminding me of the pearls on your neck when I struggled with the clasp
The steel barrier refects the sunlight when I blast through
Remember how those bangles sparkled in the sun, the ones I bought you
The sea is a wonderful thing dont you think
I wonder if the car will float or sink
The rocks are dressed in waves as I fall toward them
All shiny and sparkly, like your wedding gown was at the hem
I'm not hurting all that much
Except if I consider the loss of your touch
So I clutch your pillow to my broken chest
In the darkness I remember you, I remember the best
And the last thing I whisper into the night
Hold me baby, hold me tight!
Kiss me, kiss me hard and love me through the night.
Love me to the light.

ReplyDeleteThis feels so personal that I will not comment because my words would not be able to capture the exquisite light that shines from these words.
ReplyDeleteI clutch his pillow every night...hold and kiss him till morning light
ReplyDeletePure love and happiness. Then, pure sadness and pain. One cannot help but feel all of these while living this beautiful piece of writing.
